This technical report evaluates the effectiveness of the MonoTrap collection method for volatile organic compound (VOC) analysis in exhaled breath using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). It details the methodology for breath sampling and the analytical conditions employed during the study. The report presents a comparison of two breath collection methods: the conventional Tenax tube method and the MonoTrap method. Results indicate that the MonoTrap method, which allows for static collection without the need for sampling pumps, can capture a larger number of VOCs from exhaled breath. The study also highlights the optimization of collection conditions, revealing that a 24-hour static collection with a single MonoTrap is both practical and effective. Differences in VOC profiles were observed between samples from healthy subjects and those with inflammatory conditions, showcasing the potential of this method for non-invasive analysis of metabolic states and disease conditions. The findings support the use of MonoTrap for comprehensive VOC profiling in breath analysis.
