This technical report presents findings from a benchmarking study conducted by Sia Partners, focusing on the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting practices within the Oil and Gas industry. The study involved large and medium-sized organizations in North America and aimed to assess their ESG reporting maturity levels. The results indicate that 69% of the participating organizations are currently at either 'Phase 1 – Emergent' or 'Phase 2 – Developing' in their ESG maturity. The report outlines key challenges faced by the industry, including evolving ESG standards, expanding regulatory requirements, and the risk of 'greenwashing'. It emphasizes the need for better integration of ESG practices into corporate strategies and operational models. The findings highlight that while initial ESG strategies are in place for many organizations, there is a significant gap in translating these strategies into actionable objectives. The report also discusses the importance of ESG reporting in the context of global sustainability efforts and the ongoing energy transition.
