This case study outlines the implementation of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and service account protection at Trinity College, addressing significant security challenges within their identity security strategy. The college's IT and Security teams recognized vulnerabilities in their on-prem infrastructure, particularly concerning privileged accounts and service accounts, which lacked adequate oversight and MFA enforcement. The collaboration with C-STEM led to the selection of Silverfort as the identity security vendor, chosen for its seamless integration with existing systems and proven success in MFA enforcement. The implementation process began with a proof-of-concept on a single domain controller, allowing for a smooth transition across the campus. Key security capabilities introduced included advanced risk-based authentication, enhanced command-line security, and real-time monitoring of service account behaviors. The results exceeded expectations, establishing effective identity security measures that balance protection with operational efficiency, thereby revealing previously unknown security gaps and improving overall security posture.
