This report presents findings from a survey conducted by the SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue regarding British Columbians' perspectives on artificial intelligence (AI). Launched in September 2024, the Dialogue on Technology (DoT) Project aims to foster discussions about the social impacts of AI. The survey covers six key areas: awareness, use, and understanding of AI; attitudes towards AI; perceived impacts; views on AI use; reactions to regulation; and information needs. Results indicate that while many British Columbians are aware of AI, there is significant concern regarding its use, with 72% expressing more concern than excitement. Trust in key stakeholders managing AI is low, particularly towards tech companies. The report also highlights mixed feelings about AI's potential benefits versus risks, with 56% believing risks outweigh benefits. The findings will inform future dialogues and programming aimed at addressing public concerns and fostering responsible AI use.
