This case study details the implementation of a secure and reliable control system for the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), which spans 1850 kilometers across Turkey. The telecommunications and control infrastructure was developed by ABB’s Process Automation Division using Skkynet’s Cogent DataHub software. The DataHub facilitates secure communications of real-time and alarm data, ensuring the safe and efficient transport of natural gas. The project aims to enhance energy security for both Turkey and Europe, with an initial capacity of 16 billion cubic feet of gas per year, potentially increasing to over 30 billion. The case study outlines the integration of the DataHub with SCADA systems, which enables critical monitoring and control of the pipeline operations. It also highlights the challenges faced during integration and the support provided by the Cogent team, emphasizing the importance of reliability and redundancy in the system design.
