This case study details the collaboration between Steel and Alloy (S&A) and Softcat to modernize S&A's IT infrastructure. Initiated in 2023, the partnership aimed to replace an aging IT system supported by Nutanix servers, which S&A's IT team found increasingly costly and problematic. The objective was to source a cost-effective solution that would enhance functionality for critical IT operations. Softcat's analysis of operational data helped identify underperforming resources and areas where functionality could improve. The recommended solution involved transitioning to a Nutanix Supermicro hyper-converged platform, which included a comprehensive support contract aimed at reducing ongoing costs. The implementation process was managed to minimize disruption to daily activities, ensuring S&A could effectively transition to the new system. The new infrastructure not only improves security and performance but also supports S&A's commitment to sustainability while simplifying management through a single provider relationship.
