This case study details the project undertaken by Eaton to create an interface for transferring files between Enovia, a product lifecycle management (PLM) system, and Vault, a document management program. The objective was to streamline the workflow for handling Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) by automating the transfer of Inventor files to Vault. The solution involved the development of a web-listener by coolOrange, which receives ECO data from Enovia via HTTP in XML format. The web-listener analyzes the data, downloads the necessary files, and checks them into Vault while notifying all stakeholders of the ECO release. The implementation of this solution significantly reduced the time required for file transfers and improved transparency in the process, allowing for better error tracking and debugging. The case study highlights the positive impact on Eaton's operations, including reduced maintenance issues and enhanced visibility into the workflow, ultimately leading to greater efficiency in managing engineering changes.
