This technical report discusses the challenges of balancing performance and sustainability in datacenters, particularly in the context of artificial intelligence (AI) applications. It outlines the significant energy consumption of datacenters, which accounted for 460 TWh of power in 2022, and projects an increase to over 1000 TWh by 2026. The report highlights the role of storage in energy consumption, estimating that it constitutes about 15% of a datacenter's power usage. It introduces Solidigm's D5-P5336 SSD, which offers a high capacity of 122.88 TB and aims to address both performance and power consumption challenges. The report emphasizes the importance of modernizing storage solutions to mitigate the 'performance tax' associated with older storage technologies, which can hinder AI workloads. It concludes by recommending that IT organizations evaluate Solidigm's storage solutions to achieve better performance and sustainability in their operations.
