This whitepaper presents findings from an independent survey of 122 organizations in Colombia that experienced ransomware attacks in the past year. The survey, conducted between January and March 2025, involved 3,400 IT and cybersecurity leaders and aimed to analyze the impact of ransomware on these organizations. Key findings indicate that the median ransom demand was $60,000, with 63% of demands being under $99,999. Additionally, Colombian organizations paid an average of 78% of the ransom demand. The report identifies exploited vulnerabilities as the most common technical root cause of attacks, followed by compromised credentials and malicious emails. It also highlights that 45% of attacks resulted in data encryption, with 98% of affected organizations able to recover their data. The average cost incurred by Colombian organizations to recover from ransomware was $0.87 million, significantly lower than the global average. The report concludes with recommendations for improving cybersecurity defenses against ransomware threats.
