This case study outlines the collaboration between the University of Georgia and Spectra Logic Corporation to implement a disaster recovery solution for the university's extensive library collections. The University of Georgia, recognized as a leading research library, faced challenges related to digital preservation, outdated backup systems, and the need for indefinite retention of growing media volumes. To address these issues, the university installed two Spectra tape libraries and the BlackPearl Hybrid Storage Platform. This solution enables efficient data management by utilizing multiple storage types, ensuring data is protected from disasters while balancing speed and cost. The case study details the custom storage API created for the BlackPearl platform and the university's strategy for administrative backups, which includes daily incremental backups and weekly full backups. The implementation aims to safeguard nearly 80 years of digital content, including various media formats, ensuring long-term accessibility and preservation.
