This document is a research article that investigates the impact of networks and education on access to formal employment in India. It outlines the significant role of informal employment, which constitutes a large portion of the workforce, and contrasts it with formal employment that offers better job security and working conditions. The research objectives focus on examining the effects of bonding and bridging networks on employment access and exploring how education complements these networks. The methodology employs the Heckman Selection Model to address selection bias in employment data. The article presents findings that indicate a strong correlation between education levels and the likelihood of securing formal jobs, as well as the varying effects of different types of networks. Results show that bonding networks have a more substantial impact on employment access compared to bridging networks, and the benefits of networks are amplified by higher education levels. The analysis is based on data from the India Human Development Surveys, providing a comprehensive view of job access inequality.
