This research article examines the alignment of corporate disclosures with the European Union's Taxonomy for sustainable activities, focusing on companies within the Stoxx 600 index. The EU Taxonomy, effective from July 2020, provides a classification system for identifying environmentally sustainable economic activities. The study analyzes fiscal year 2022 disclosures, which are the first required under the Non-Financial Reporting Directive. It details the criteria for determining alignment, emphasizing the need for companies to meet specific technical standards while ensuring that their activities do not harm other sustainability goals. The findings reveal significant variations in alignment across sectors and industries, with notable insights into the Real Estate, Utilities, and Industrials sectors. The article also discusses the implications for investors, highlighting how understanding alignment metrics can inform investment decisions in the context of the transition to a low-carbon economy.
