This document is a research article that examines the concept of Transition Events (TEs) in football tactics, particularly focusing on the Torero approach utilized by various teams in the English Premier League. It outlines the evolution of tactical strategies over the past decade, highlighting the shift from traditional positional play to more dynamic approaches that seek to exploit defensive weaknesses. The article details the methodology used to identify TEs, which are defined as moments when teams transition from settled possession to attacking opportunities. The research utilizes extensive event data from Statsbomb to analyze the conditions under which TEs occur and their effectiveness in creating scoring chances. The findings suggest that while TEs can offer significant advantages, they also carry inherent risks. The article aims to provide insights into how teams can better leverage TEs and identify players capable of executing these strategies effectively. The scope of the analysis is limited to applications of the TE statistic, with further research suggested for optimizing the Torero approach.
