This case study details the process undertaken by the Land and Development Bank of South Africa to recover mailbox data from a large and corrupt PST file. The bank had been using Microsoft Outlook 2013 extensively, leading to the accumulation of oversized PST files. Due to a lapse in the archiving process, many emails were not archived, resulting in performance issues and eventual inaccessibility of the PST file when migrating to Outlook 2016. The Outlook administrator attempted to use the built-in Inbox Repair Tool, scanpst.exe, but faced challenges as the tool failed to repair the corrupt file. Consequently, the administrator evaluated various PST repair software options and chose Stellar Toolkit for Outlook. The toolkit allowed the administrator to repair the PST file, recover mailbox data, and split the file into smaller, manageable sizes. The successful recovery was validated by the user after importing the restored PST files into Outlook 2016, ensuring optimal performance.
