This case study presents the implementation of the Scaba 40VV40T-M2a bottom-mounted agitator in the PVC emulsion stripping process at a leading PVC resin producer's plant. The objective was to enhance process reliability, product quality, and energy efficiency. The study outlines the challenges faced in PVC emulsion stripping, including shear sensitivity and the need for efficient thermal control while operating under ATEX zone 1 requirements. The solution involved the installation of a specially engineered agitator designed for low-shear mixing, which ensures uniform heat distribution and effective removal of unreacted monomer. Key features of the agitator include a three-bladed hydrofoil propeller, duplex stainless steel construction, and a double cartridge mechanical seal for enhanced safety and reliability. The results indicate significant improvements in process stability, reduced power consumption, and lower operational costs, demonstrating the effectiveness of the Scaba agitator in optimizing polymer production processes.
