This case study details the collaboration between Sulzer and Calysseo in the production of a sustainable bio-protein for the Asian aquafeed industry. Sulzer is supplying loop reactor pumps to Calysseo’s facility in Chongqing, China, which is the world's first commercial-scale manufacturing site for FeedKind®, a single-cell protein. The project aims to alleviate pressure on wild fisheries and reduce the agricultural resources and water needed for animal feed. The fermentation process will utilize Sulzer’s high-flow AH axial flow loop reactor pumps, designed for heavy-duty applications. These pumps are engineered to meet the specific challenges of bioprocessing, including corrosion and erosion resistance, and will support a processing capacity of 20,000 tonnes per annum. The case study emphasizes the innovative nature of the project and the potential environmental benefits for the aquafeed industry.
