This case study details the implementation of a value stream management (VSM) approach at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), a prominent cancer treatment and research institution in New York City. The objective was to evolve cancer care excellence by leveraging digital capabilities and enhancing patient experiences. MSK faced challenges from increasing digital expectations among patients and competition from non-traditional healthcare providers. By adopting ValueOps™ by Broadcom, MSK transformed its operational approach, focusing on value streams to optimize workflows and enhance collaboration across diverse teams. The implementation resulted in significant benefits, including improved employee engagement, reduced time to market for initiatives, and enhanced visibility into project portfolios. Notably, MSK was able to deliver twice as many large initiatives in 2022 compared to the previous year, demonstrating the effectiveness of the VSM approach in adapting to changing healthcare needs and improving patient care.
