This case study details the implementation of Axiom™ Strategic Financial Planning (SFP) at Western Kentucky University (WKU) to enhance decision-making capabilities. Facing challenges such as enrollment declines and budget constraints, WKU leaders recognized the need for improved strategic planning tools. The SFP solution was adopted to facilitate data-driven decision-making and provide visibility into the long-term financial impacts of various initiatives. Prior to SFP, decision-making was often based on anecdotal evidence and lacked a comprehensive view of financial implications across the university. With SFP, WKU finance leaders can now model various scenarios, allowing them to anticipate future financial needs and allocate resources effectively. The implementation of SFP has significantly reduced the time required for scenario analyses from three months to three weeks, enabling a more collaborative approach to budgeting. This case study illustrates how data-driven insights have transformed WKU's financial planning processes, allowing for better-informed decisions that support the university's long-term goals.
