This case study outlines the modernization of a casual restaurant chain's data platform to enhance data-driven decision-making. The restaurant faced challenges with slow and inconsistent reporting due to fragmented data sources, including multiple point-of-sale systems and a lack of integration for online ordering data. As a result, leaders struggled to gain visibility into key performance metrics, particularly concerning digital orders. The implemented solution involved a partnership with SEI to design a scalable data architecture using Microsoft Fabric, incorporating a medallion architecture with Bronze, Silver, and Gold zones. Key features included automated data ingestion pipelines, full integration of online ordering and POS data, and the development of shared semantic models and a new data warehouse. These improvements resulted in real-time analytics capabilities, significantly enhanced sales reporting accuracy, and empowered various teams with advanced reporting tools, ultimately supporting growth and facilitating confident decision-making across the organization.
