This case study outlines the development of a learning plan for the de-watering strategy of the Pile Fuel Storage Pond (PFSP) at the Sellafield site. The project, initiated in collaboration with TÜV SÜD, aims to address the retrieval of hazardous materials from the facility, which has been ongoing since 2010. The learning plan is designed to support the de-watering strategy, with a completion target for the retrieval program set for 2026. The document details the structured approach taken, including workshops and the application of Data Quality Objectives (DQO) to define learning objectives and necessary tasks. The learning plan encompasses six key topic areas, including technology development, pond inventory characterization, and effluent management. The structured process aims to fill knowledge gaps and uncertainties related to the de-watering strategy, ultimately ensuring the facility is prepared for de-watering by 2030/31.
