This case study details the project undertaken by Targus Technologies to optimize the IT infrastructure of DS Group, a prominent Indian multinational FMCG conglomerate. The initiative was prompted by the high costs and limited scalability associated with DS Group's previous setup, which included 18 outdated servers spread across multiple locations. The project involved the implementation of a virtualized infrastructure utilizing VMware vSphere 4 and HP G7 servers, which allowed for significant improvements in scalability and efficiency. The new system supports various applications, including Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft SQL Server, while reducing power and cooling costs by 67% annually and cutting net server procurement costs by 46%. The deployment also achieved a server consolidation ratio of 6:1 and increased hardware resource utilization to 70%. The case study outlines the challenges faced, the solutions implemented, and the resulting benefits to DS Group's operational efficiency.
