This case study details Union Bank of India's (UBI) innovative approach to modernizing its banking services through the metaverse, in collaboration with Tech Mahindra. The initiative aimed to enhance customer engagement by creating an immersive digital environment that integrates core banking services with interactive 3D elements and avatars. The project began with the identification of metaverse banking as a solution to UBI's challenges in reaching younger consumers, who were increasingly drawn to more modern banking options. The implementation involved a five-phase plan, starting with a minimum viable product (MVP) that allowed users to access banking services in a virtual setting. The metaverse platform not only improved user experience but also generated significant traffic, attracting over 367,000 visitors and yielding 76,000 new leads within 18 months. The case study outlines the strategic steps taken by UBI to enhance its online presence and improve customer experience while addressing the challenges posed by traditional banking methods.
