This research article assesses the performance of ChatGPT in medical knowledge competency specifically for obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) exams in Germany. The study aims to evaluate ChatGPT's ability to process and respond to questions from two datasets: OB/GYN course exams at a German university hospital and the German medical state licensing exams. A quantitative analysis compares ChatGPT's accuracy with that of medical students across various question difficulties and types. Additionally, a qualitative analysis examines the quality of ChatGPT's responses, focusing on aspects such as clarity, completeness, and relevance. The results indicate that ChatGPT demonstrates consistent performance, providing correct answers at rates comparable to medical students, although its accuracy varies with question difficulty. The findings suggest that ChatGPT has potential as a supplementary tool in medical education, offering insights that could enhance autonomous learning. The study concludes by discussing the implications of AI tools like ChatGPT in transforming medical education and clinical practice.
