This technical report details the implementation of autonomous cleaning robots at Frankfurt Airport, managed by Fraport Facility Services GmbH. The report outlines the challenges faced in maintaining cleanliness in a high-traffic environment, including expansive terminal areas, high passenger volumes, labor constraints, and sustainability targets. To address these challenges, Fraport introduced Tennant's autonomous cleaning robots in 2024, specifically the T16AMR and X4 ROVR models, which are powered by the BrainOS® automation platform. The report explains the selection process for these robots, highlighting their flexibility, usability, and technical support. Since their deployment, the robots have cleaned over 1.6 million square meters and have improved operational efficiency by allowing human staff to focus on specialized cleaning tasks. The report also discusses the positive reception from passengers and the future plans for expanding the fleet of autonomous machines, emphasizing the role of robotics in enhancing airport operations and sustainability efforts.
