This technical report discusses the application of elastic full waveform inversion (E-DMFWI) in the Lower Congo Basin offshore Angola, focusing on the challenges posed by complex salt bodies that hinder seismic imaging. In 2025, TGS conducted a 3D survey over Blocks 33, 49, and 50, covering an area of 8,681 km². The report outlines the innovative acquisition strategy that combined narrow-azimuth (NAZ) and one-sided wide-azimuth (WAZ) configurations with low-frequency sources to enhance subsurface illumination. The methodology employed iterative salt interpretation and geological quality control to develop a reliable earth model. The report details the geological context of the region, including the formation of salt structures and their impact on petroleum systems. It emphasizes the importance of high-resolution imaging for reducing exploration uncertainty in both mature and underexplored areas. The findings indicate that the integrated approach provided a cost-effective pathway for improved imaging in Angola's frontier salt provinces.
