This document is a case study detailing the implementation of a disaster recovery (DR) solution utilizing Apache CloudStack and Ceph Storage. The case study outlines the selection of Apache CloudStack as a foundational platform due to its open-source nature and scalability, which supports Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) capabilities. The need for a cost-effective DR solution was identified, particularly for a telecom company in Asia. Ceph was chosen for its robust storage capabilities, including object, block, and file storage, which facilitate data resilience. The implementation involved setting up active zones for virtual machines and leveraging Ceph's features for data management. A proof of concept was conducted to validate the solution's reliability, achieving a Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of 60 minutes and a Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of 120 minutes. The results indicated significant cost savings and enhanced system reliability, demonstrating the effectiveness of open-source technologies in addressing DR challenges.
