Creativity in the R&D Laboratory Study

This document is a research report that investigates the factors influencing creativity in research and development (R&D) laboratories. The study is based on interviews with 120 R&D scientists, who were asked to recount two specific events from their work experience: one that exemplified high creativity and another that illustrated low creativity. The objective of the research is to identify the environmental and personal factors that either stimulate or inhibit creativity within R&D settings. The report outlines the research method, which included detailed content analysis of the interview transcripts, categorizing responses into major themes such as environmental stimulants and obstacles to creativity, as well as personal qualities that affect creative output. The findings suggest that freedom in the work environment plays a crucial role in fostering creativity, alongside other factors related to project management and corporate culture. The report concludes with recommendations for managers on how to enhance creativity within their teams.
