Integrating Leadership Across Higher Education

This technical report discusses the critical need for effective leadership within higher education institutions, addressing the unprecedented challenges faced by leaders today. It outlines the essential leadership competencies identified through research involving nearly 1,000 leaders globally, highlighting five key areas: Change Management, Strategic Perspective, Decisiveness, Taking Initiative, and Composure. The report further examines the development needs of higher education leaders, identifying gaps that require attention, such as confronting problem employees and leading effectively. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of leadership development for faculty and staff, proposing that enhanced training can create a robust pipeline of leaders. The report presents various leadership development programs tailored for administrators, faculty, and continuing education professionals, detailing the methodologies employed and the impact of these initiatives.
