College-Level Examination Program Validity Study

This document is a College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) Validity Study designed to assist institutions in evaluating their CLEP placement policies. It provides information on the effectiveness of policies for granting CLEP credit for introductory courses by comparing the performance of students who entered higher-level courses through CLEP credit against those who completed the equivalent introductory courses at their institution. The study includes several sections: a summary of student performance in the higher-level course, a statistical comparison of performance based on CLEP credit, a summary of student performance in the CLEP-equivalent courses, and a summary of student characteristics in the higher-level course. Additionally, it outlines the methodology for forming comparison groups based on students' CLEP scores and course-taking history, ensuring that the analysis is based on accurate and relevant data. Limitations regarding data accuracy are also discussed.
