This technical report examines the validity of AP English Literature Exam scores following changes implemented in May 2022. The College Board collaborates with colleges and universities to analyze how AP scores influence students' placement in college courses. The study focuses on students from the high school graduating class of 2022 who took the AP English Literature Exam and subsequently enrolled in college. It compares the performance of students who placed out of introductory courses using their AP scores with those who did not take the exam. The analysis includes data from 22 institutions and over 20,000 students, revealing that AP students generally perform better in subsequent courses than their non-AP counterparts. The report also discusses the evidence-based standard setting process that led to scoring changes and the implications for AP students' academic success in higher education.
