This document is a technical report that outlines the current state of diagnostics in healthcare, focusing on the significant gap in access to appropriate diagnostic services for a large portion of the global population. It details the project's objective to generate evidence supporting innovators and decision-makers in addressing this gap for both communicable and non-communicable diseases. The report describes the selection processes for innovations and exemplars, highlighting specific diagnostic tools and successful country programs. Three innovations studied include a rapid diagnostic test for human African trypanosomiasis, HIV self-tests, and continuous glucose monitoring. The exemplars selected for study are Zimbabwe for HIV testing, Rwanda for integrated antenatal care testing, and Sri Lanka for diabetes testing. The report emphasizes the role of a Technical Advisory Group in guiding research and the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders to improve diagnostic services and health outcomes.
