This research article presents a qualitative study exploring the perspectives of developers on the ethics surrounding AI-driven neural implants. The study focuses on three specific types of neural implants: a cochlear implant, a visual neural implant, and a speech-brain-computer interface. Conducted through semi-structured focus groups with 19 developers, the research identifies ethically relevant considerations clustered into three main themes: design aspects, challenges in clinical trials, and the impact on users and society. Developers expressed that the accuracy and reliability of these implants are crucial for ensuring user safety and mental privacy, particularly in the context of AI integration. The study highlights the potential conflicts between the need for accuracy and the benefits of AI, such as efficiency and complex data interpretation. The findings aim to contribute to the ethical discourse surrounding the development and application of neurotechnologies, emphasizing the importance of incorporating developer insights into ethical analysis.
