Population and Climate Change Perspectives Among Demographers

This research article presents findings from a survey conducted among European demographers regarding their views on the relationship between population dynamics and climate change. The survey, carried out between February and April 2020, aimed to gauge the level of concern among demographers about climate change and its implications for population policy. The results indicate that climate change is a primary concern for the majority of respondents; however, there is significant division regarding the effectiveness of population policies in mitigating CO2 emissions. While many demographers recognize the urgency of addressing climate change, they are less convinced that reducing population size is a viable solution. The article discusses the implications of these findings for future policy-making and highlights the need for demographers' perspectives to be considered in climate change discussions. The study serves as a critical contribution to understanding the consensus and dissensus among experts in the field regarding the intersection of demographic trends and climate issues.
