This report presents the findings of the Kootenay Advanced Manufacturing Sector Assessment conducted by the Discovery Foundation's Advanced Manufacturing Program in collaboration with the Kootenay Association for Science and Technology and Selkirk Innovates. The primary objective of the survey was to gather essential information regarding the Advanced Manufacturing sector in the Kootenay Region of British Columbia, focusing on its size, employment potential, and challenges faced by businesses, particularly in recruitment and retention. A total of 72 businesses participated, revealing significant challenges such as limited access to funding, a skilled workforce shortage, and the need for peer support. The report outlines various opportunities for growth, including the development of networks for securing investments and the importance of recruiting and training skilled workers. Furthermore, it discusses the Advanced Manufacturing Spectrum, which categorizes businesses based on their technological sophistication and outlines pathways for advancement within the sector. The findings aim to support strategic initiatives for enhancing the sector's growth and sustainability.
