This technical report outlines the integration of edge-of-field (EoF) practices into agricultural systems to enhance both economic and conservation outcomes. EoF practices, including vegetative buffers and wetlands, are identified as effective methods for improving environmental quality while aiding farmers in managing agricultural inputs. The report discusses the current lag in EoF adoption rates compared to targeted goals and emphasizes the need for a framework to develop an ecosystem-market payment scheme. It highlights the ecological impacts of EoF practices, farmers' willingness to adopt these practices on marginal lands, and the potential scope of EoF opportunities. The findings suggest that significant areas of marginal land could be converted to EoF practices, which would provide ecological benefits. However, barriers to adoption, such as payment structures and management inefficiencies, are also discussed. The report concludes with recommendations for enhancing EoF adoption through improved economic analyses and public-private partnerships.
