This case study details the challenges faced by a healthcare provider regarding poor data quality and lack of visibility in hospital theaters. The document outlines how these issues led to inefficiencies in theater utilization across 47 sites, impacting patient outcomes and operational costs. The healthcare provider required a system to track theater performance, identify inefficiencies, and provide accurate metrics for planning. Thorogood developed a comprehensive Power BI reporting suite that combined planning and booking-level data, enabling teams to compare planned versus actual bookings. The solution also included a robust Data Lakehouse platform on Microsoft Azure, ensuring data security while improving data quality. The results demonstrated enhanced visibility of theater utilization, allowing for proactive adjustments to bookings and improved resource allocation. Key performance indicators were established at various levels, and the healthcare provider is now considering similar approaches for outpatient consulting room utilization, indicating the project's success and potential for further application.
