This case study outlines the development of a Knowledge Management tool for a global leader in synthetic diamond manufacturing. The objective was to provide a solution that would allow users to efficiently access and utilize decades of research documents stored in the company's R&D repository. The tool, developed in late 2024, features a web chat application powered by a Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) model, enabling users to ask questions and receive answers grounded in verified research. The architecture includes an automated ingestion pipeline that scans the R&D SharePoint repository for updates, storing the information in a Databricks Lakehouse for semantic retrieval. The implementation utilized Databricks and Mosaic AI to ensure a unified environment for data storage, model development, and security. User feedback was integral to the iterative development process, enhancing trust in the tool's outputs. Overall, the project significantly improved access to scientific knowledge, transforming archived expertise into a valuable asset for the organization.
