This case study examines Fieldale Farms' implementation of Tosca reusable plastic crates (RPCs) for transporting poultry. Fieldale Farms, a specialty poultry producer, sought to enhance sustainability by transitioning from single-use corrugated boxes to reusable solutions. The study outlines how the adoption of Tosca RPCs has allowed Fieldale to maintain product quality while reducing costs and environmental impact. The RPCs are cleaned and maintained to high food safety standards, enabling efficient distribution directly from the packaging plant to retail customers. The results include a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, estimated at over 80%, and substantial water savings, totaling over 143 million gallons. Additionally, the use of stronger RPCs has led to a decrease in the number of boxes handled, with 24% fewer packages per truck, thus streamlining operations.
