This case study outlines the automation of a 430,000 square foot omni-channel fulfillment center for a major retailer facing facility constraints, labor shortages, and significant SKU growth. The project integrated Trew's SmartMoves-WX® Warehouse Execution System (WES), Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS), and extensive conveyance solutions to improve efficiency for both retail and e-commerce operations. Key challenges included adapting to physical constraints, high labor costs, and managing an increasing number of SKUs. The implemented solution achieved an automation rate of over 80% for manual tasks and increased throughput by 5 to 8 times. The case study explains the customization of the system to meet specific operational needs and the long-term benefits, such as enhanced operational efficiency, cost savings, and a scalable solution for future growth. Project management details are included, emphasizing the complexity of installation while maintaining operational continuity.
