This report identifies and addresses the barriers to the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the transport sector. It aims to provide a structured approach to overcoming these barriers, which include both technical and non-technical challenges that hinder the full potential of AI integration. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, incorporating a literature review and industry-led workshops to gather insights from stakeholders across the transport and AI ecosystems. The report outlines eight key barriers that were identified and refined through collaborative discussions among over 60 participants. Additionally, it presents five key opportunities to facilitate AI adoption, emphasizing the need for clear governance, collaboration between innovation and data protection, enhancement of technical skills, public confidence in AI, and investment in supporting infrastructure. The findings advocate for a coordinated effort to create an AI-ready ecosystem within the transport sector, which is essential for improving efficiency, safety, and sustainability in transportation.
