This article presents a study on the application of gamification, specifically through the UrbanGame activity, aimed at enhancing heritage education related to the Spanish Civil War bombings in Alicante. The research evaluates the effectiveness of active methodologies in raising cultural heritage awareness among university students. Involving 122 students from primary and secondary education programs, the study utilized collaborative work, meaningful learning, problem-based learning, and discovery learning strategies. The UrbanGame activity was designed and implemented, followed by surveys to gather quantitative and qualitative data on students' perceptions, satisfaction, and learning outcomes. Results indicated that while collaborative work did not significantly impact content comprehension, meaningful learning showed a positive trend. Problem-based learning had a weak relationship with content comprehension, while motivation and concentration significantly influenced learning outcomes. The UrbanGame activity fostered emotional connections with local history, suggesting that an integrated approach combining various active methodologies is essential for maximizing educational effectiveness and promoting cultural heritage.
