This research and policy paper presents an impact study on the Research on Improving Systems of Education (RISE) Ethiopia project, which was conducted from 2017 to 2022. The study examines how RISE Ethiopia research has influenced education policy and practice in Ethiopia over the past five years. It is based on interviews with government and donor stakeholders, as well as a review of relevant policy documentation. The findings indicate a high level of awareness and engagement with RISE research among participants from the Ministry of Education and Regional Education Bureaus. The study highlights the influence of RISE research on policy initiatives, particularly in promoting foundational literacy and numeracy, and in informing the planning of future education reforms. Additionally, it documents the role of RISE research in addressing challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in relation to school reopening. The paper outlines the methodologies employed, including qualitative and quantitative approaches, to gather comprehensive evidence on the impact of education reforms in Ethiopia.
