This technical report presents the architectural design and performance evaluation of a prototypical multi-interface gateway (MIG) for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The MIG is designed to efficiently route information across various heterogeneous networks, addressing the challenges posed by the increasing deployment of IoT systems. The report details the architecture of the MIG, which incorporates multiple wireless communication interfaces, including LoRaWAN, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), cellular 4G, and Wi-Fi. The performance evaluation is conducted through an innovative analytical model based on Markov chains, simulation using a Python-based simulator, and experimental validation with a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) device. The findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed analytical model and highlight the MIG's capability to manage data flows effectively across different communication protocols. The report discusses potential improvements and future directions for enhancing the MIG framework, emphasizing its modular design and adaptability to various IoT scenarios.
