This document is a research article that provides a comprehensive review of the Social Accountability 8000 (SA8000) standard, which has been in existence for 25 years. The article aims to summarize existing literature on SA8000, its impacts on companies, employees, supply chains, and stakeholders, and to identify gaps in the current research. The authors employ a 10-step method that incorporates best practices for conducting literature reviews, ensuring transparency and reproducibility. The review highlights seven key research areas related to SA8000, including its structure, purpose, diffusion, and implications for sustainable supply chain management. Additionally, the article discusses the requirements for obtaining SA8000 certification, which focuses on improving working conditions and promoting sustainability. The findings indicate that SA8000 certification can significantly influence management systems and contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goals. The article concludes with an agenda for future research, addressing open questions in the field of SA8000.
