G.R.O.W. Report on Rural Education Characteristics

This report presents a narrative inquiry into the unique characteristics of rural schooling, focusing on the experiences of educators in small, rural distant schools. The study aims to capture significant insights from current and retired educators to understand the distinctive features of these educational environments. It outlines the challenges faced by rural schools, including economic and infrastructural issues that impact educational quality and student experiences. The methodology employed narrative inquiry to gather stories from educators across three rural districts, highlighting their shared characteristics and the specific difficulties they encounter. The findings reveal that rural schools often struggle with limited resources, geographic isolation, and a lack of diverse educational opportunities, which can lead to narrow student perspectives and inadequate college and career preparation.
