This research article presents a systematic literature review on the application of Digital Twin (DT) technology in aircraft maintenance and operation. It aims to analyze the current state of the art regarding the integration of DTs in the aerospace sector, particularly focusing on their role in enhancing Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) systems. The article outlines the significance of DTs in optimizing aircraft operations through real-time data collection and analysis. It discusses the methodologies used in existing literature, highlighting the common tools and subsystems involved in DT implementations. Furthermore, the authors propose a modular architecture that summarizes the findings from the reviewed works and identifies open issues and future research directions. The study emphasizes the importance of DTs in improving maintenance processes and the overall lifecycle management of aircraft, providing valuable insights for researchers and practitioners in the field.
