This report presents the findings of the Uptime Institute's 2024 Cooling Systems Survey, focusing on the adoption and usage of direct liquid cooling (DLC) in data centers. Conducted between February 8 and March 13, 2024, the survey included 964 respondents from the data center industry, primarily owner/operators. The results indicate that 22% of organizations are currently utilizing DLC, while 61% are not using it but express interest in future adoption. The report details that nearly half of the current DLC users have less than 10% of their IT racks employing this technology. Additionally, 30% of users report using DLC in only a few servers, and 47% in some IT racks. The survey also identifies major barriers to DLC deployment, including increased costs and reliability concerns. The findings highlight the current landscape of DLC usage and the potential for future growth in data center cooling technologies.
