The Uptime Institute Global Data Center Survey 2024 is a comprehensive report that examines the current state of the data center industry, focusing on resiliency, sustainability, efficiency, staffing, cloud, and artificial intelligence. Conducted online from March to April 2024, the survey gathered insights from over 850 data center owners and operators, as well as more than 750 vendors and consultants. Key findings indicate that while average Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) levels have remained stable, there are notable advancements in larger facilities. The report also highlights that many operators are not tracking essential sustainability metrics, which may hinder compliance with future regulations. Additionally, the trust in AI for data center operations has declined for the third consecutive year, despite recognition of its potential benefits. The survey underscores the ongoing challenges of staffing and the need for investment in infrastructure to meet rising demand for digital services, particularly in the context of increasing IT workloads and operational complexities.
