This case study details the installation of Ultraviolet-C (UV-C) disinfection systems at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) as part of a comprehensive infection control strategy. The initiative, costing $7.5 million, aims to reduce passenger exposure to infectious pathogens, including the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Over 600 UV-C fixtures were installed in HVAC air handling units servicing the airport's six terminals and various public spaces. The project involved significant logistical challenges, including increased supply chain times due to the pandemic. The UV-C technology is supported by peer-reviewed science and endorsed by health organizations, highlighting its efficacy in reducing airborne pathogens. The study outlines the installation process, including the use of RLM Xtreme™ fixtures, and describes how the UV-C systems work to disinfect air and surfaces without introducing harmful chemicals. This project represents a significant advancement in air quality and safety measures at one of the busiest airports in the world.
