Powering LA County Fire Stations with Network Infrastructure

This case study details the network infrastructure enhancements implemented for the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD), which operates numerous fire stations across a wide geographic area. The study outlines the challenges faced by LACoFD, including low-quality network infrastructure that resulted in unreliable wireless signals and coverage gaps. Specific issues included the lack of RF design and architectural drawings, unknown building materials, and the need for operational sensitivity during network upgrades. The solution involved a minimally disruptive deployment strategy, which included onsite design assessments of 23 fire stations, integration of advanced wireless access points, and installation of Cat6 cabling infrastructure. The results of the network enhancement program were significant, providing scalable infrastructure, reliable connections for mission-critical communications, and ensuring zero downtime during implementation. The enhancements led to improved wireless coverage in key operational areas, supporting the essential emergency response capabilities of LACoFD.
